Navy awards UNO for mapping systems
NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans will develop defense mapping systems for the Naval Research Laboratory for the next 5 years.
Mahdi Abdelguerfi, chairman of computer science, and John Finigan, information technology director of the computer science department will be the managers on the project.
Mahdi Abdelguerfi says the work will make use of UNO's expertise in location mapping systems, satellite photos, sea floor depth, and land elevation.
UNO is expected to process map data faster and more effective than the systems currently in place.
