Naturalization ceremony in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - American citizenship is something many people given by birth, but today it was something earned.
A naturalization ceremony took place Friday morning at the Baton Rouge River Center. 21 people, from 17 different countries became members of the United States.
Many said it was a dream come true.
Sara Lucuta, from Romania, said it means a whole new future...she's waited 10 years for this day.
Jamshaid Qureshi, from Pakistan, said he plans to get involved in the government.
Subhashini Rajgopal, from India, said she aspires to be a teacher.
Earning citizenry is no easy task...it actually takes some time.
Applicants must have a green card and then wait five years and take a 100 question test.
In addition to privileges like voting, obligations like jury duty and obeying American laws are part of a privilege not to be taken for granted.
