National Weather Service: Prairieville storm confirmed a tornado
PRAIRIEVILLE - Meteorologists with the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed Wednesday that the damage incurred on homes in Prairieville were caused by a tornado.
The NWS has not finalized the strength of the tornado but has said that it is won't be classified as anything less than an EF1. An EF1 classification means the storm's winds speeds were probably between 86 and 110 mph.
The NWS said their meteorologists are still assessing the damage on site and will have more information later.
Ascension Parish authorities responded to a damages caused by the storm early this morning in Prairieville around Airline Highway near Duplessis Road.
