National Guard to pay for Krotz Springs barriers
KROTZ SPRINGS - St. Landry Parish President Bill Fontenot says the Louisiana National Guard will foot the $136,000 bill for flood barriers a Krotz Springs man floated for two years.
Fontenot said his office, Krotz Springs Mayor Carroll Snyder and Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Kevin Davis met last week to discuss who owed Paul Wiltz the money for approximately 330 HESCO barriers he provided in anticipation of the 2011 Morganza Spillway flooding.
The HESCO barriers are large metal crates filled with sand used to create temporary barriers during anticipated flooding.
Fontenot said it appeared when the order was placed the transaction was not well documented. He said Davis took responsibility for the order and would work with the state National Guard to make the payment.
