National Guard aids in St. Bernard boom allotment
The Louisiana National Guard is stepping up to help protect the coast from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Soldiers from the 1022nd Engineer Company, 527th Engineer Battalion in West Monroe, are helping load boats with boom and stakes at the Breton Sound Marina in Hopedale.
The 527th is one of the two biggest units in the Louisiana National Guard.
