Natchitoches Central tops Scotlandville in 5A State Title
LAKE CHARLES - Cameron Lard scored 22 points and Natchitoches Central dethroned two-time defending state champion Scotlandville 60-53 in the Class 5A state championship game Friday night.
Lard scored eight points during a decisive 12-4 second-half run that gave the Chiefs (31-3) the lead for good after Scotlandville tied the game at 37 late in the third quarter.
Scotlandville (36-2), which was in the championship game for the fifth straight year, was led by LaMarcus Lee's 19 points. Jordan Adebutu scored 18.
Natchitoches Central led 28-25 at the half. Lard scored 10 points and blocked three shots in the half.
Lee scored seven to lead Scotlandville. The lead changed four times in the half, with neither team leading by more than six.
Scotlandville forced 12 turnovers in the half and scored 14 second-chance points off 11 rebounds. Natchitoches Central made 12 of 16 field goal attempts in the first half.
