NEW ORLEANS- A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to having a role in five killings in 2007, including the fatal shooting of an off-duty police officer.

A plea agreement with federal prosecutors calls for 27-year-old Steven Earl Hardrick to receive a 30-year prison sentence. He can withdraw Thursday's guilty plea if U.S. District Judge Sarah Vance hands him a longer sentence.

An indictment accused Hardrick others of breaking into the home of New Orleans Police detective Thelonius Dukes in October 2007 and demanding money and cocaine before fatally shooting him.

Hardrick also was charged with participating in an October 2007 carjacking that resulted in the killings of Brett Jacobs, David Alford and Howard Pickens. The fifth victim, Dwayne Landry, was killed in a separate shooting earlier the same month.
