BATON ROUGE- Heavy smoke that has prompted numerous calls to authorities and WBRZ News 2 is being blamed on Mississippi.

Forestry officials said after looking into reports of the smoke, they've determined it's the lingering effects of three large controlled burns across the state line.

People across the region reported seeing and smelling the smoke. Some said they had to pull over and refused to drive in it.

Forestry officials also said there were smaller controlled burns, unrelated to the large ones in Mississippi, but did not contribute to the heavy haze.
