HOUMA - A state trooper was shocked by a little girl, who handed him a Christmas card at a store.

The girl handed him a card, then left. When the trooper opened it, it read "the gift of love, the gift of peace, and the gift of joy; May these be yours at Christmas and all through the year." Then, a handwritten note: "thank you for protecting our community. Merry Christmas."

Troop C posted a picture of the card and a note about it on Facebook.

The mystery child left the store where the unidentified trooper was standing in line before he could thank her, state police said in a post on the social media site.
