BATON ROUGE- Traffic slowed to a crawl eastbound over the Mississippi River on I-10 Monday due to a sewer by-product that somehow leaked from a truck and covered the interstate at the Perkins Road exit near Southdowns.
The substance, which appeared black on DOTD tower cameras perched above the situation, was in all lanes of traffic near the off ramp. MAP crews were out with flashing lights warning drivers about the issue. The fire department responded also.
Two lanes on I-10 at Perkins were closed along with the exit to Perkins. The area was fully re-opened around 3 p.m., but DOTD said congestion was back to LA-415 at Lobdell.
