Murdered five year old laid to rest
BATON ROUGE - 5 year old Jay"v"une Bergin was laid to rest Saturday morning after allegedly being beaten to death by his father, Vernell Day.
Day is facing attempted murder charges and a felon in possession of a firearm charge.
But both sides of the child's family came together to cope with his death.
Pastor Keith Branch, the officiating minister, told News 2 the families are getting through the tragic loss.
"It was mixed emotions. The family was sad because of the loss of a loved one. No doubt...unanswered questions and concerns.
But I think today's memorial service was actually healthy and wholesome. It was the start of them beginning a new life, moving forward," said Branch.
Family members on both sides declined to comment.
