BATON ROUGE – Jeremy Brown is on trial for beating another man to death.

He is accused of killing Shaun Hartley in 2013. Hartley's body was found beaten to death with a two-by-four in an abandoned house.

Hartley was the sole witness in a separate murder investigation. Shingo Edwards was arrested in 2013 for killing Keith Matthews. Hartley was the only witness in the case. He apparently told authorities he feared for his life, and was enrolled in a witness protection program.

The charges against Shingo Edwards were dismissed after Hartley's death, due to lack of evidence. Court documents in Jeremy Brown's trial show the two murder cases are connected.

Jeremy Brown is facing second-degree murder charges.
