St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne says a 52-year-old Luling man called to say he had killed his girlfriend, then apparently shot himself after a six-hour standoff with deputies.
Authorities say 52-year-old Gary Farrell, pictured here, was taken to University Hospital in extremely critical condition Wednesday. A condition report was not immediately available Thursday from either the sheriff's office or the hospital.
Champagne says Farrell called about 2 p.m. and said he had left his girlfriend's body in a car in a hospital parking lot. Deputies soon found it. Capt. Patrick Yoes identified her Thursday as Ginger Mongrue of Luling. He says an autopsy will decide the cause of death.
