Multiple wrecks turn EBR interstate into parking lot
BATON ROUGE - A wreck on I-10 West at the Mississippi River Bridge brought traffic to a standstill Tuesday morning in Baton Rouge.
The wreck happened around 5:30 a.m. and blocked two lanes of I-10 West at the LA 1 exit just across the bridge. By the time all lanes re-opened around 7 a.m. traffic had built back to Essen Lane on both I-10 and I-12.
The traffic jams didn't ease up, though, as other wrecks happened on I-10 West throughout the morning rush. One wreck on the interstate at College Drive at 8:30 a.m. blocked three lanes of traffic when a pair of 18-wheelers became tangled up while driving and had to pull over and be separated. By the the time the interstate reopened fully just before 10 a.m. traffic was backed up past Bluebonnet Blvd. on I-10 West and Airline on I-12 West.
During that time a third wreck on I-12 West past Essen blocked one lane of travel, causing backups past South Sherwood Forest Boulevard before it was reopened.
