New York City placed a big order with a Holden-based company. The contract is worth more than $20 million.
Ferrara Fire Apparatus will build 20 aerial fire trucks and 5 rescue vehicles for emergency crews in New York. The multi-million dollar job could actually put more people back to work in Livingston Parish.
When business was slow last year, Ferrara had to let about 40 people go. But president and CEO Chris Ferrara told News 2 times are changing.
"It appears we're about 10 to 15 percent up this quarter than last quarter at this time," he said. "So, it appears if everything continues like it's going, it should increase employment."
The New York job should be finished by early next year. But we're told more large projects could be on the way.
Ferrara is the same company that built the Spirit of Louisiana, a replacement pumper truck for New York, following the 9-11 attacks.
