TROY, MICHIGAN- The world's favorite color of silver for a car is falling in popularity to white according to PPG Industries, the leading supplier of automotive paints.
PPG says 25 percent of the vehicles it supplied in the 2013 model year were white compared to silver or black that tied with 18 percent.
PPG says Apple gets some of the credit, with its slim white devices, from flat shades to pearl.
PPG's manager of automotive color styling says car makers are currently scouting colors for the 2016 and 2017 model years and predicts jewel-like colors.
Rich greens and purples are supposed to be popular with grays and browns gaining recognition.
