Motorcycle officer hit, taken to hospital in Friday night crash
BAKER - A Baton Rouge Police Department motorcycle officer was injured and taken to a hospital after a car crash on Highway 19 Friday evening.
Baker Police said the city police officer was driving on the highway when another motorist pulled out from a side street and the two collided. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 19 and Washington Street near Groom Road.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the officer was cited with failure to yield and careless operation. Their name was not released.
The officer sustained moderate injuries.
Witnesses said traffic was heavy and one lane of the highway was closed Friday night as officers worked the crash scene.
