The mother of convicted killer Gerald Bordelon told News 2 in her first ever television interview she didn't witness the execution to honor her son's wishes.

Gerald Bordelon was put to death by lethal injection Thursday night at the State Penitentiary at Angola. Bordelon killed his 12-year-old stepdaughter Courtney LeBlanc in 2002. Bordelon waived his right to appeal his death sentence.

"He was a great support to me in all of this," Bordelon's mother, Alethea Bordelon said. "The tables turned and he became the supporter and I became the leaner."

In his final statement, Bordelon asked for forgiveness and apologized three times to Courtney LeBlanc's family.

"He thought he deserved to die for taking Courtney's life," Bordelon said. "He thought he deserved the sentence because he didnt' want his families to suffer anymore."

Before Bordelon was put to death, he wrote all of his family members letters. They plan on opening them after his funeral on Saturday.
