PORT VINCENT - Sheriff's deputies arrested a Livingston Parish woman after they said her two-year-old daughter was found wandering without clothes on in a wooded area this weekend.
Perry Rushing with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said Morgan Patterson, 19, of Port Vincent was arrested Sunday night and her daughter was taken custody by the state Department of Children and Family Services.
Rushing said just before dark Sunday evening, a woman came across a child with no clothes on wandering in a wooded area near Bayside Drive. She found clothes for the toddler, then contacted police and stayed with her while officers arrived.
Investigators determined the child climbed down a two-story flight of stairs from her home on the banks of an Amite River side canal, then walked about a quarter-mile before she was found.
Rushing said Patterson told deputies "they fell asleep and she [the girl] must have left out of the house while she was sleeping".
Patterson was booked into the parish jail in suspicion of one count of child desertion and three counts of unpaid traffic tickets. She was released from jail Monday after posting a $1066 bond.
