BATON ROUGE - A fight for justice over the death of an eleventh-month child has turned into a war of words between family members.

Aaliyah Heard died after a severe blow to the head. Aaliyah's father, Larry Leflore, 26, is charged with first degree murder. Aaliyah's mother, Ashley Heard, 28, is charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.

"He said he was only in the house four to five minutes. I feel the baby could have fell," Leflore's mother, Gina Vessels said. "I know that my son did not do this."

Vessels didn't put blame on who she thought was responsible for Aaliyah's death. But on Thursday, Leflore blamed Heard.

Heard's mother blames Leflore.

"She(Aaliyah) didn't like him and she always cried around him and I didn't like that and I looked at my daughter and she said that's the daddy so I walked out the house," Juanita Allen said. "But I wish I would have stayed there and kicked their (explicit)."

The arrest affidavit WBRZ obtained Friday says Leflore lost it when Aaliyah wouldn't eat her grits. The baby's six-year old sibling told authorities Leflore beat and threw Aaliyah ... then put her to bed before she became unresponsive. She died at the hospital.
