Mother arrested for desertion after child drowns
PRAIRIEVILLE - Deputies arrested a Prairieville woman in suspicion of child desertion after they said her two-year-old daughter was left alone and drowned in a swimming pool.
Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said deputies arrested Fallon Gautreau, 22, on Monday.
Bacala said on May 9, Gautreau left her daughter playing in a swimming pool at their home with several neighborhood children while she and her mother went to the store. Bacala said the child's grandfather was in the home, but unaware the children were playing unattended in the yard.
When they returned home Gautreau and her mother found the neighborhood children had left and later discovered the two-year-old in the swimming pool. The child was rushed to a local hospital, where she remained on life support until May 11 when she was pronounced dead.
Investigators got a warrant for Gautreau's arrest on May 18, and arrested her Monday. She bonded out of jail the next day on a $2,500 bond.
