Mother accused of punching kids' bus driver
BATON ROUGE - A mother faces felony battery on a teacher charges following an altercation with a school bus driver.
Jasmine Cleveland, 22, is accused of punching her children's elementary school bus driver in the face, twice. According to court documents, Cleveland jumped on the bus Friday morning when it stopped for her two children. She is accused of verbally and physically attacking the driver, an East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office warrant reports.
Deputies say the confrontation on Osceola St. stems from an issue on Thursday where the Capitol Elementary bus driver refused to leave Cleveland's children at the bus stop alone after school because the mother was not there to pick them up. Instead, the driver returned the kids to school, per a school system policy.
But, the driver told authorities she went out of her way to try and get the kids home before taking the kindergarten and first students back to school. The driver said she waited at Cleveland's house before leaving and taking the kids back to school where Cleveland had to pick them up.
The driver believes Cleveland was upset about the situation and let her frustration get the best of her by cursing and physically attacking her.
But, Cleveland said that was not the case. She refused an interview on camera but said in a phone conversation, she got on the bus to discipline the driver for reckless driving and not because the driver did not drop off her kids at the bus stop. Cleveland admitted to cursing the driver but said she never attacked her kids' bus driver.
Cleveland never met with deputies about the situation, although she told them she would. She added, her kids now attend a different school and do not ride the school bus.
