BATON ROUGE - Due to weather expected in the Baton Rouge area, most Red Stick Revelry events are being canceled, event officials reported late Saturday morning.

The Red Stick will still drop at midnight in Town Square downtown, according to event officials.

All mid-day arts and fitness activities for children have been canceled, officials said. The Baton Rouge Bicentennial plaque dedication was still held at 11:20 a.m. in Galvez Plaza, according to officials. A Baton Rouge Bicentennial birthday cake will also still be served in Town Square to anyone in the downtown area.

The concert tonight, featuring bands Bread Pudd'n and Phat Hat, has been canceled. The fireworks show at midnight has also been canceled.

However, the Red Stick drop at midnight in the North Boulevard Town Square will still take place.

Event coordinators are encouraging those who planned to attend events to make dinner plans or enjoy entertainment downtown and see the Red Stick drop at midnight.

Officials said in a press release the decision to cancel events was made "in consultation with local meteorologists, Baton Rouge Police and City-Parish officials based first on public safety and on the safety of sound and fireworks equipment needed to be constructed in place most of the day to hold the events."
