Swiftships Shipbuilders in Morgan City won a $181 million contract to build nine patrol boats for Iraq's Navy, a deal that will create about 100 jobs.
The boats will be constructed at the company's yard in Morgan City by September 2010. They're designed to operate in coastal waters out to approximately 200 miles from shore. The boat can accomodate eight crew members and four officers.
Swiftships is also getting a $23.6 million contract to provide training for the boats for the Iraqi Navy.
