The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is closing both recreational and commercial fishing from the eastern shore of South Pass of the Mississippi River westward to the eastern portion of Atchafalaya Bay at Point au Fer.
The closure goes into effect at 6 p.m. tonight.
The LDWF says oil from the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig accident has the potential to impact fish and other aquatic life in portions of Louisiana's coastal waters.
Point au Fer is about thirty miles south of Morgan City.
