BATON ROUGE - After a violent few days in the Capital City, some people are turning to home security systems for extra safety.

Custom Security Systems told WBRZ, there was a surge in customers looking for equipment Wednesday after a home invasion Tuesday morning.  Following the attack where a career criminal died when the homeowner shot him, call volume to secure homes has jumped about 35 percent.

"People [are] calling to reconnect systems that have never been connected since they moved into their home," said a consultant with the company, Corey Spano. "We had a guy stop in, he was so concerned we had a [us] go out and meet him today."

Neighbors who live in the neighborhood where the intrusion happened say they're rattled but learned something.

"That's the big step that we all need to take [more steps] in securing our homes and even our vehicles," Naomi Chapman said.

Custom Security said people are calling about alarm systems and cameras inside and outside to make sure homes are armed and secured.

"When you have an alarm go off in your home and then the police are being notified, that's going to get the person off target of what they were doing," said Spano.
