BAYOU CORNE - Gas is bubbling up in new spots near a massive sinkhole in Assumption Parish.
Pockets of gas are roiling the water in Bayou Corne, Grand Bayou and Triche Canal. Gas has been bubbling up in other locations in the area for months.
Investigators believe the gas and a massive sinkhole are linked to a salt cavern managed by Texas Brine. Texas Brine is in the process of drilling a relief well to see if the cavern is the cause of the trouble.
Company officials say Hurricane Isaac delayed drilling by about a week.
The Department of Environmental Quality is monitoring the new gas locations.
