LAFAYETTE - Police in Lafayette scheduled a press conference this afternoon to release more information about an arrest made in connection with the disappearance of college student Mickey Shunick.

Police arrested Brandon Lavergne, 33, yesterday and searched his home in St. Landry Parish for hours last night. He's accused of murder and kidnapping, and police scheduled a 1 p.m. press conference to brief the media.

Shunick disappeared while riding her bike home from a friend's house in May. Her bike was later found damaged in Whiskey Bay under I-10.

Lavergne is a registered sex offender and was convicted in 2000 of aggravated oral sexual battery.
