BAYOU CORNE - Emergency officials released more information today about new bubbling sites spotted near a sinkhole in Assumption Parish.

Surveyors found several sites in the last two days, bringing the total number of recorded bubbling sites in the parish up to 34.

The police jury reported the location of the sites on their sinkhole blog, saying they were specifically watching one very active site about a thousands feet away from the sinkhole.

The sinkhole, which prompted a evacuation for the nearby community, is believed to have been caused by the collapse of a brine cavern owned by Texas Brine. The sinkhole was preceded by bubbling in the local bayous.
