MORGANZA- The Army Corps of Engineers has opened more bays at the Morganza Spillway. So far, 15 bays have been opened.
The Corps said they will eventually have around 31 bays open to divert water from the Mississippi River.
Officials say they will also be closing some bays that were already open and opening others to replace them in order to prevent the water form scouring land behind the spillway.
Gates began opening Saturday. The Spillway is located Northwest of Baton Rouge in Pointe Coupee Parish.
