The city of Monroe is looking to recover about $1.1 million in what tax officials believe are delinquent sales taxes.
According to the Monroe News Star, the Taxation and Revenue division for the city filed petitions for delinquent sales taxes Wednesday and Thursday in state court.
Taxation and Revenue director Tim Lewis says the businesses were given tax audit assessments for specified time frames between 1999 and 2008.
Lewis says the businesses have either disputed the tax assessment or failed to comply.
Lewis says more lawsuits will be filed as records are examined.
The largest amount allegedly owed was $573,198, including penalties and interest.
