Monroe school board to meet about charter schools
MONROE - The Monroe City School Board has scheduled a special meeting Tuesday to consider a proposal to change Neville High School to a charter school and one for a proposed new arts and performance charter school for at-risk youth.
Charters have a June 1 deadline to file a letter of intent with the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the board's next regular meeting is June 5.
The Neville Alumni and Friends Association has applied for a Type III charter, which would keep the charter school within the Monroe City School District. It would also keep its current school zone, faculty and administration.
The other proposal is from Tab N Action, headed by the Rev. Roosevelt Wright and the New Tabernacle Baptist Church.
