SPRING, Texas - Witnesses say a young mother tried to save her newborn from abductors before she died of gunshot wounds.

A Texas prosecutor tells ABC that Verna McClain is charged with capital murder in the shooting of Kala Marie Golden and abduction of Golden's 3-day old son, Keegan, yesterday near Houston.

He says McClain is a registered nurse.

Witnesses say the dying woman leaned into the getaway car and tried to take Keegan back, screaming "My baby!" -- but the car sped away.

Keegan was found unharmed last night.

The district attorney says it was a random kidnapping.

There's no word on the man witnesses saw in the car that was used in the abduction
