Mom, children escape overnight duplex fire

BATON ROUGE - A mom and her five children are safe but without a home after fire ripped through their home early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials believe the fire started in the attic of the duplex on Holt Dr. just after 3 a.m.  The duplex is considered a total loss.

The family of six were able to get out of the home unharmed.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.

While battling the fire a firefighter received a minor cut to the hand from broken glass in the building.

Foul play is not suspected in this fire.
