Mom arrested after driving drunk with children inside vehicle, crashing on Hwy. 165

JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH – A mother was arrested for driving drunk while her four children were in the vehicle, following a crash on Highway 165.

The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 on Highway 165 south of Highway 101 when a Buick van, driven by 29-year-old Kate Elizabeth Davis, was traveling northbound. Davis lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.

The vehicle then entered a ditch and hit a culvert before becoming airborne. The vehicle then came to a rest in the ditch and became fully engulfed in flames.

A good Samaritan stopped at the crash, removed the children from the burning car and received burns to his leg.

The eight-year-old boy was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his moderate injuries and burns. The other children, a one-year-old boy, a two-year-old boy and a five-year-old boy were also transported with minor injuries. The three youngest children were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Davis was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated 3rd offense, child endangerment, resisting arrest, improper lane usage and no child restraints.

Louisiana State Police responded to the crash. The Department of Child and Family Services was also contacted and responded to the matter.
