Mississippi woman's boyfriend charged in her baby's death
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi woman's boyfriend is accused in the death of her infant.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell told The Sun Herald that 7-month-old Tanner Cowart was abused and died Wednesday, leading to the levying of a capital murder charge against 27-year-old Michael Harris.
Ezell says deputies were called to investigate suspected abuse when the infant was initially treated at an Ocean Springs hospital on Friday.
The sheriff says Harris was home with the baby that day while the baby's mother took another child to school. The mother told investigators she found her son unresponsive when she returned around 8:30 a.m.
Harris was initially charged with felony child abuse, but the charge was upgraded upon the baby's death. It's unclear whether Harris has a lawyer.
