BELLE ROSE - Fishermen found the body of a missing shooting victim last night, according to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Mike Waguespack said the body of Tony Rodriguez Jr. was found last night by fishermen in a canal off Myles Road in Iberville Parish. He appeared to have been shot in the upper chest.

Deputies said they were told Rodriguez had been shot after a carjacking Tuesday in Belle Rose. He and another person were allegedly pulled from their vehicle by two armed men and taken to a nearby residence, according to investigators. They said a fight broke out, during which Rodriguez was shot and the other victim fled.

Detectives said the residence was set on fire to cover any evidence. No suspects have been named in the case so far.

Rodriguez's autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow at the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.
