Missing man found dead off Grand Isle beach
LABADIEVILLE - Authorities in Assumption Parish said they found a man reported missing Monday dead just off a beach in Grand Isle.
Sheriff Mike Waguespack said relatives of Michael Blanchard, 51, of Labadieville reported him missing when he didn't show up to work Monday morning. Detectives pinged his cell phone, and said it was showing up in the Grand Isle area.
Investigators assisted by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Coast Guard and Grand Isle Fire Department searched the area and found Blanchard's body on some rock jetties Monday evening.
Sheriff Waguespack said investigators believe the cause of death to be drowning. An autopsy has been scheduled at the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.
The sheriff asked anyone with information about Blanchard's death contact the APSO Detectives Division at (985) 526-1627.
