Mirabito recommended for CATS interim director
BATON ROUGE - A search committee recommended a former telecommunications vice president today to head the Capital Area Transit System in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The committee chose Robert Mirabito after interviews with him and the runner-up for the position, John Conroy. The recommendation will go before the full board next week.
Mirabito served as vice president of CenturyTel before becoming chief information officer for the Baton Rouge Radiology Group. Conroy managed hospitals and rehab institutes in Florida and Louisiana before launching a short campaign for EBR mayor-president, which he withdrew from before qualifying.
If the recommendation is approved, Mirabito will be interim CEO for six to nine months while a search for a permanent director gets underway. He could also be considered for the permanent position.
CATS is in the middle of a multi-million dollar revamp of its system after a tax election last year. They've promised to add new buses, reduce wait times, and improve bus shelters by next year.
