Ministry drops plan for Denham Springs site
DENHAM SPRINGS, La. - A religious organization has withdrawn an application seeking the city's consent to open a home for young women.
The Advocate reports the facility had been proposed by Door of Hope Ministry for a site on 4-H Road.
After suitability of the site drew questions from the City Council and residents in April, the City Council tabled a request for a zoning variance needed to operate at the site with members saying they needed more information.
City Attorney Paeton Burkett told the council this past week that Door of Hope Ministry has dropped its request for the variance.
Mayor Jimmy Durbin said the group plans to look for a new location.
Ministry officials couldn't be reached for comment.
