Mike is being catty about going into Tiger Stadium
BATON ROUGE - Mike has been absent from football games this season and fans are hoping he can be coaxed out of his habitat for Saturday's home finale against Alabama.
Friday night, fans watched Mike the Tiger take a big yawn and fall back asleep. Fans took pictures as they discussed his attendance at Saturday's game.
"Mike only gets in the cage if he wants to," said LSU fan Janet Stevenson. "Sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't."
Caretakers say this behavior for the fully-mature nine-year-old tiger is normal. He likely knows the significance of the cage, and prefers to stay in his habitat, away from the yelling fans.
Traditionally, Mike will sit outside the opponents locker room as intimidation. Saturday, could be the day he does it again.
"The way he looked at me, he's thinking very deeply about it," said Stevenson.
On the Mike VI, Facebook page, an administrator posted that Mike is not motivated by food. Suggestions to put food in a the trailer that takes him across the street to the stadium won't work, the poster said.
"What they need to do is get something that smells like 'Bama. Maybe he'll do it," said Stevenson.
