Migrating pelicans having issues in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE- Animal control agents have a mystery to solve: why are so many pelicans dying near the lakes?
The birds stop here as they migrate south. Recently, five have hit power lines, have fallen to the ground and died. But, agents aren't sure if the birds are electrocuted or died from the impact.
"It's pretty odd. I don't quite understand this, it's the first time I've hard of it in our parish," animal control director Hilton Cole said.
"They are normally pretty wary of wires, and they know the lakes."
