BATON ROUGE - Midterm election day has arrived and thousands of residents are expected to pack the polls. The early voting numbers reached a new high this year with millions still left to mark their ballots.

The only statewide position up for grabs is the Secretary of State seat.  Residents will also decide whether to return six U.S. House incumbents to Washington for another term, and rewrite six constitutional amendments.

Among the amendments is one proposal that would require unanimous jury verdicts for all felony convictions in Louisiana. Another amendment would make convicted felons wait five years after serving their sentence before running for an elected office seat.

In each parish, voters will decide if they want to legalize fantasy sports betting. The vote, seen by some lawmakers as a way to gauge statewide gaming sentiment, could set the tone for possibly legalizing betting on real sports in Louisiana.

There are also local elections for school board seats and local judge's races.

Polls opened at 6 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. We'll have the results on our 10 p.m newscast and online. Click here for more information on this year's ballot.
