WASHINGTON- The Pentagon's Inspector General will investigate allegations of waste and misuse of taxpayer dollars by a military unit responsible for accounting for POWs and MIAs. The investigation is in response to a report that says the Joint MIA-POW Accounting Command's search for the remains of U.S. service members on old battlefields is so inept, mismanaged and wasteful that is risks total failure. The Inspector General says it is a non criminal investigation. At a Senate hearing today, the deputy assistant secretary of defense for POW-MIA policy said the investigation is into allegations of "waste, fraud and abuse."
