BATON ROUGE - District 11 Metro Councilwoman Alison Gary announced today that she will not run for re-election. Gary sent a letter to Metro Councilmembers with her decision:

"Dear Councilmembers,

Now that campaign season is gearing up, I wanted to let you know that I have decided not to run for a second term.

It was an extremely difficult decision, but I know that once baby girl Gary gets here, my priorities are going to shift.

I had been on the fence about this for a while, but more than anything I want to give my family as much attention as possible.

I will certainly miss serving on Council and I plan to enjoy and put a lot of work into these next six months.

I may run again in the future, but this year, I'm happy to watch y'all from the sidelines!

Alison"

District 11 encompasses neighborhoods including Old Goodwood, Tara, Westminster, Jefferson Terrace, and Bocage/Jefferson Place.

Republican Ryan Heck announced yesterday that he is running for the District 11 seat.
