Metro Council approves mall, hospital annexations
BATON ROUGE - Metro Council members chose to approve petitions to annex property including the Mall of Louisiana and Baton Rouge General Hospital into the city limits of Baton Rouge.
The vote was 9-3 in favor of annexation; council members Heck, Amoroso, and Loupe voted against. A motion by Councilman Buddy Amoroso to defer the annexation failed prior to the vote.
The annexation petitions stirred controversy among supporters of the proposed City of St. George, who said they were backdoor plans by Baton Rouge city leaders to kill the movement.
In their petitions, the mall and hospital noted that concerns about the viability of St. George prompted their requests for annexation.
