Sheriff's deputies say a 21-year-old Merryville woman died while on an outing with friends at Anacoco Creek, north of Rosepine in Vernon Parish.
The Alexandria Town Talk reports the Vernon Parish Sheriff's office received a report of a missing person around 9 p.m. Wednesday after Melissa Renee Knox's friends could not find the
woman when it was time to leave.
Deputies, along with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries officials, conducted a search that night, but it was halted until Thursday morning.
The search resumed at daybreak, and Knox's body was found in a creek around 8 a.m.
Deputies say the body was sent to Shreveport for an autopsy.
