Men accused in deputy's death face new charges
ABBEVILLE - State police say two Abbeville men accused of killing Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Deputy Allen Bares Jr. last week will face additional charges of armed robbery and obstruction of justice.
Twenty-year-old Quintylan Richard and 19-year-old Baylan Taylor were already facing charges of first-degree murder, unauthorized use of a moveable and burglary in the case.
Bares, a 12-year law enforcement veteran, was killed June 23 when he encountered two men suspected of burglarizing a home near where Bares was cutting grass on his day off.
The two men allegedly stole Bares' vehicle at gunpoint, which state police said is the basis of the armed robbery charges.
Two other men face charges for helping Richard elude capture after the shooting.
