MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis' police director and mayor say there will be no local charges filed against two fugitives from Louisiana who were captured after a police chase.

Darian Pierce and Ricky Wedgeworth were arrested by Memphis police on March 14.

They had been on the run for 10 days before they were pursued into Memphis by authorities from Olive Branch, Miss., who spotted them driving a stolen government vehicle.

Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin on Wednesday commended the actions of his officers but says the department will not pursue charges against the men.

Mayor A.C. Wharton says he agrees with the decision.

The men face charges of simple escape and unauthorized use of a vehicle in Louisiana.

Authorities say they escaped a police barracks in Zachary, La., on March 4.
