BATON ROUGE- Memorial Day is right around the corner and law enforcement officials are putting extra patrolmen on the roads and highways to deal with the holiday traffic.

Memorial Day weekend always puts an excess of cars on the road. This year it comes at the same time as one of the biggest music events of the summer, which will bring even more people to Baton Rouge.

City officials are expecting to see as many as 45,000 people at Tiger Stadium for the Taylor Swift concert on Friday night. Visit Baton Rouge expects to surpass the record breaking hotel occupancy the city saw last year, when more than 140,000 people came in for the weekend.

Police throughout Baton Rouge are preparing for the influx of people. They're putting more officers around the city to make sure the large crowds aren't a risk to anyone's safety.

"We'll be out looking for people speeding, aggressively driving, anything like that. We're going to be in full force," says J.B. Slaton, with Louisiana State Police. "We're also going to be looking for people not wearing their seatbelts, impared drivers, people following too closely, people need to keep the distance, even though traffic is at a slow creep sometimes, we still need to keep our distance and keep our mind on the roadway."

Officials are asking people to treat this Memorial Day weekend like a football weekend. Remember to remain patient this weekend, expect traffic delays, and always make sure you have a full gas tank.
